LolliBop Festival 2011

An exciting three day festival, which will take place in Regent’s Park, London on August 5, 6, and 7, 2011. The festival is a result of a sell out two day event in 2010 and is now back bigger and better than ever before. Billed as the big bash for little people, organisers have secured an impressive line up of diverse attractions and activities, guaranteed to keep kids (big and small) entertained for hours on end.

Straight off the TV and onto the LolliBop live stage is CBeebies favourite Rastamouse, making his London debut at the LolliBop festival. Rastamouse, Scratchy and Zoomer will keep the little ones bopping with ‘Hot Hot Hot’ tracks from their debut album and cool, cool performances of songs from the show including ‘Ice Popp’.Other big name acts confirmed to perform at the festival, include Dick and Dom, Zingzillas, The Bopps, Mr Motivator and Charlie & Lola. And popular Cbeebies presenters Carrie Burnell, Alex Winters and Sid Stone will be joining in all the fun too.

Other festival highlights, include Horrible Histories. From Roman Britain to Victoria’s Empire, Britain has heaps of horrible stories to tell. It’s history with the nasty bits left in! Fans of The Twits, Charlie & Lola, The Chocolate Factory and James &The Giant Peach you will not be disappointed.

For all budding Einsteins, Science Museum Live is great fun for all the family to enjoy, with spectacular science and hands-on exhibits. Launch an exploding rocket, fire a vortex of air and learn the secrets behind some of the coolest science experiments.

There will be plenty of arts and craft activities, face painting and workshops, including DJ classes and pizza making sessions. Go karting, a football factory (with Tottenham Hotspurs), babyoke, stand up comedy and even a ‘gorilla enclosure’ all add to the LolliBop fun. A wide selection of food and drinks stalls are on hand to provide a welcome rest.

All of the activities, stages and events are included in the entry ticket price meaning parents won’t be in for any expensive surprises!

Royal College of Art Exhibition at TestBed 1/ Highlights

Highlights

On entering the Gallery space a rather tall lady stood on the left turns directly incoming visitors and says sternly “We must do this for the good of the country” which I found fantastically ambiguous and intriguing. This show was a visual and conceptual Pandora’s box of ideas with good outcomes housed within this well curated industrial semi derelict chic environment, which truly comes together to provide a pleasant experience.

Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair.

Pretty Taxing by Pam Hogg
limited edition tax disc holder

A rather rainy start to father's day which totally didn't prepare me for arts seller's, art lovers and the sun turned out with a respectable force at the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair which included some of the biggest names in UK art present with their pitch's and item's, an absolutely amazing opportunity to get close to the artist's.

Renegade Potter
On arriving to the car boot sale, my first time at the Vauxhall Arts Car Boot Sale and the first time visiting the Old Truman Brewery. I found myself pleasantly surprised as I was not sure what to expect of the atmosphere or the crowd, knowing that a few big names of UK contemporary art would be there. But what fascinated me most was how unpretentious and easy going both the artist sellers and the crowds, walking around soaking up all of the stunning visuals provided by all of the sellers.

Nick Reynolds
Carrie Reichardt
Among the multitude of seller's which were all great, was a lady know as the Renegade Potter: Carrie Reichardt a truly unique talent offering a totally different take on afternoon tea or re-tiling your bathroom these pieces are sure to start a conversation. Her uninhibited creativity and political messages come together well to create challenging statement's, profound ideas with classic irony. Situated right next to the renegade potter was Nick Reynolds sculptor and artist collaborator who's speciality involves the macabre and the surreal combining to produce visuals which are very hard hitting yet sublime, in particular the piece of a young boy holding a grenade in one hand and the pin in the other, this complete stopped me in my tracks a truly striking item.

The biggest draw of the event would have had to have been the opportunity to buy something direct from Pam Hogg from the iconic fashion designer herself, same could be said for YBAs (Young British Artists) Gavin Turk and Tracey Emin a key selling point to help you part with some cash, and it must be said that with the reputation which precedes these individuals contrary to what could be assume they were all so approachable and welcoming it was truly a brilliant experience. I will resist the urge to summarise all of the weird a wonderful world of the Vauxhall Art Car Boot Fair in words so here are a few photo's.

Battersea Food Market- At a Glance

Today along a quaint but idyllic cobbled south London street saw the advent of a new era for Battersea High Street. In an effort to reignite the soul, community spirit and character of “The High Street” following the previous events hosted by the high street, notably the Royal Wedding Celebration which turned out to be a roaring success. This new  initiative by the founder of The Dessert Deli  provides a fabulous opportunity for the street to continue to turn around the perception it has among the general public and local resident’s. From now on every Saturday Battersea High Street will play host to plethora of food sellers from varying cuisine’s from different continents and discipline‘s, making their delightful treats and bringing them within easy reach of residents from this lovely corner of South West London and the rest of London alike.

The food left a lasting impression, as a person whom appreciates the satisfaction confectionary may bring to some I do not have a sweet tooth, contrary to this fact I had been granted the pleasure of sampling treats from The Dessert Deli supplier to Fortnum and Mason to say the least, their Millionaires Caramel Shortbread is a truly divine indulgence along with flapjack and a caramelised lemon cream ensemble which was  totally delectable. The Dessert Deli displays the embodiment of palatable passion and for that I would definitely return the second on the list is the Sweet Tooth Factory is a fabulous cheesecake business producing cheesecake by the like of pistachio, Lemon, Strawberry, Kinder Bueno and last but not least the Oreo cheesecake which I had to sample out of sheer curiosity and a liking of Oreo‘s. I must add at a very healthy portion size this is another of those guilty treats which justify themselves as it isn’t an indulgence that I would recommend for those figure watchers among us, if that is no concern to you these cheesecakes are a fabulous addition to any good evening. To move on from all that sweet talk also available on sale is a variety of breads, antipasti, cured meats, eastern delights savoury and sweet, a wide range of cheeses, marmalade and the list could go on, this new food market has all of the right ingredients to mature in to a fine place to eat and or acquire on a Saturday morning.
